Azerbaijani President Participates in Opening Ceremony of New Base of State Border Service

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening ceremony of a new base of the State Border Service Shore Protection on 8 November.

The new base of the Shore Protection was established within the framework of the State program on technical development of the Azerbaijani State Border protection system for 2006-2010, which was confirmed by the President's decree, Lieutenant-General Elchin Guliyev, the chief of the State Border Service said.

Construction work of the base began on 29 June in 2007. The base includes team management centre, training centre, Heydar Aliyev museum, club, canteen, helicopter ground, ship repair workshop, sea training polygon, berth bridges as well as residential complex.

The new base will play an important role in strengthening of supervision over the Azerbaijani part of the Caspian Sea and reliable protection of sea borders, oil and gas producing regions, platforms and underwater pipelines.

President Ilham Aliyev visited rooms of protection from weapons of mass annihilation, communication, foreign language, special border training and training room of monitor group.

Then the Azerbaijani President got familiarization with cars, which have high speed opportunities and equipped with modern devices, anti-mine devices, portable radio location systems and means of underwater swimming.

The Commander-in-Chief visited residential complex of the Shore protection. The residential complex includes 18 flats, equipped with furniture and other home facilities.

The Commander-in-Chief got familiarization with helicopter ground, special sea training polygon of staff, berth bridges and hydro technical equipments.

The Azerbaijani President highly assessed work done at the base and said that activity of the State Border Service meets with international standards.
