Candidate to Iran’s Interior Minister Position Approved (UPDATE)

Iran, Tehran, 18 November/ Trend , corr. A.Hakimi / The candidacy of Mohammad Sadig Mahsuli to the position of Iran's Interior Minister was approved by the Parliament's majority

Some 138 MPs voted for, 112- against and 20 MPs refrained from voting. Before, Mahsuli was an advisor to the President.

Former Iranian Interior Minister was discharged from the position the last week.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad attended the meeting of the Parliament and supported Mahsuli's candidacy.

Prior to that time, Ahmadinejad discharged two interior ministers -Mostafa Mohammadali and Ali Kordan.

In 2004, the Iranian President proposed Mahsuli's candidacy to the Petroleum Minister position. However, then Parliament rejected the proposition.
