Turkmenistan, Ashkhabad, Dec. 29 / Trend . E.Hasanov / The results of the second parliamentary elections will be announced soon. The election was held in one of the thick populated regions of Lebap province (Lebap welaýaty) of Turkmenistan, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) reported.
On Dec. 14, 123 mandates were elected to Parliament. However, there was a need in election of 125 MPs. For this purpose, the repeated voting was decided to hold in provinces. So, there were two candidates from Sakar region - Jumayev, director in a secondary school, and Ovesov, director in the Veterinary Service.
In accordance with CEC, the repeated voting was held in an organized way, in the terms of openness and glasnost, in a strict correspondence with the acting election legislation of the country and standards of the international rights. National observers were present in all seventeen electoral districts. According to their estimation, more than 20,000 voters, registered by district election commission participated in the voting.
Another stage of repeated voting will take place on Feb. 8, 2009 in the district 101, Oguzkhan region of Matiy province, where an elected MP refused to accept an office due to family reasons.
According to the Constitution, the Majlis (Parlaiment) is powered to introduce
changes and supplements, additions, consider program on basic trends in
political, economic and social development of the country, solution of issues
on conducting national referendum, fixing election date including appointment
of President of Turkmenistan and MPs, ratify and denounce international
agreements, change in state border of the country, study problems of peace and
security.
