President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Good-will Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO announced Person of the Year in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 29/ Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva / On Dec. 29, Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Good-will Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO and first lady of Azerbaijan was announced Person of the Year of Azerbaijan for her services in protection of children's rights.

According to the poll among children, Young Leaders children's organization of Azerbaijan announced Mehriban Aliyeva Person of the Year for her activities in protection of children's rights and addressing their social problems, chairman of the organization Farid Shahbazov told a news conference held at TREND news company's conference hall.

Young Leaders announced President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Friend of Children in 2007 as well.

Traditions set by the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in protection of children are continued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in a deserved fashion, Shahbazov said. "Mehriban Aliyeva initiated solution of social problems of children which remained unsolved for may years," he said.

Heydar Aliyev Foundation headed by Mehriban Aliyeva was founded on March 10, 2004. Since its inception, the priorities of the Foundation have been care for children and for more vulnerable categories of society who need special attention and care. For short period of time, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has implemented and continues to implement a series of large programs and projects such as New Schools for Renewed Azerbaijan, Life without Thalassemia, Care for Children Suffering Diabetes and Development of Children's Homes and Boarding Schools, etc.

As many as 132 schools were built within the New Schools for Renewed Azerbaijan program in regions and villages across the country. About 100 more schools are planned to be built in the second stage.

All boarding schools in Baku and regions were repaired and supplied with necessary equipment in accordance with the Development of Children's Homes and Boarding Schools program.

According to the poll by Young Leaders, MPs Fattah Heydarov, Yagub Mahmudov, Zahid Oruj, Nizami Jafarov, Aydin Mirzazade and Huseynbala Miralamov have been announced MPs of the Year for the work with children. Khalida Bayramova, first deputy head of the Administrative Power of Sabayil district of Baku was announced Official of the Year and Vagif Asadov and head of Public Relations Department of traffic police office of the Central Police Department of Baku has been announced Spokesperson of the Year.

Young Leaders founded on June 1, 2005 aims at supporting protection of children and addressing their social problems.
