A book on Azerbaijani state figure published in Moscow

An event was held on Azerbaijani State Figure Mammadamin Rasulzade's 125th anniversary in Russia.

The Mammadamin Rasulzade Society organized the event in Moscow. A book entitled Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which was dedicated to Rasulzade's life and activity was presented in the event, Musavat party told Trend .

Famous scholars, writers of Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as Rasulzade's grandson Rais Rasulzade attended the event. The Russian Science Academy's History Institute Employee and Doctor of Historical Studies Salavat Isagov was awarded medal of the Mammadamin Rasulzade Society for presenting historical research at the event.

Mammadamin Rasulzade (1884-1955), the political figure and the founder of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic, was born on 31 January 1884 in the settlement of Novkhani in Baku. He began his public and political activities when he was still very young and was the bearer and propagandist of ideas of Turkism and independence. Rasulzade who wrote political, social and publicity articles for the newspapers Shergi Rus, Hummat, Takammul, and Irshad, founded the party Musavat in 1911. In 1918 he declared the first democratic republic in the history of the East, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, together with his brother-in-arms which existed for only two years before the Soviet Empire caused its collapse in 1920.

Rasulzade and other renowned intelligentsia were arrested. Later he was released according to Stalin's order and lived in Turkey, far from his native land to the end of his days. He died on 6 March 1955 in Ankara.
