Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 2/ Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva/ Azerbaijani National Security Ministry has detained armed group who was planning to explode the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline.
Head of the group Azer Misirkhanov, with Abdulla nickname, earlier participated in special trainings and battles in various conflict zones and in illegal armed groups, National Security Ministry's Public Relations Office told Trend .
He was imprisoned with charges of illegally crossing border and participating in illegal armed group in 2001. Later Azer Misisrkhanov went abroad in an effort to take part in acts of terrorism against anti-terrorism coalition.
Rashid Mustafayev, Faiq Jafarov, Firdovsi Guliyev, Vasif Omarov, Vusal Isayev, Mahir Allahverdiyev, Ekmaddin Farajov, Asif Amikishili, Alkaram Mammadov, Rashad Nabiyev, Tural Hasanov, Ceyhun Aliyev and others organized a criminal group under Misirkhanov's leadership. They obtained fire arms and explosives and smuggled it to the country. They committed acts of terrorism, robbery and other crimes in Azerbaijan. The court sentenced the armed group into jail.
It was revealed that the armed group helped Samir Mehdiyev, with Suleyman nickname, to avoid investigation and go abroad. Samir Mehdiyev, one of the leaders of the Forest Brothers armed group, was wanted with charges of committing act of terrorism in Abu Bakr mosque in Narimanov district of Baku on Aug. 17, 2008.
Misirkhanov planned to commit an act of terrorism and to explode the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline in an effort to disrupt stability and cause an anxiety among population in a period prior to the presidential election. Misirkhanov trained Rashid Mustafayev and gave him certain instructions for this purpose.
As soon as Rashid Mustafayev returned Baku in Oct. 2008, he instructed group's another member Asif Amikishili to define site of pipelines running from Azerbaijan to Russia and to prepare explosives. Asif Amikishili went to Khachmaz region in Oct. 2008. He considered large pipes as the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline wrongly, defined suitable place for explosion and informed Rashid Mustafayev about it.
The group was detained during anti-terror operations based on a special plan on Jan. 14, 2009. The aforesaid fire arms, ammunition and explosives were uncovered and seized in reedy place near Faiq Jafarov's house in Saray settlement of Absheron region. The Ministry also uncovered three plastids containing over 5 kilograms of explosives named as 'martyr's belt' among terrorists, one TNT pot of 200 grams, two RPQ-7 handmade grenade and 5 shells, two Mukha handmade grenade, two AKS guns, one UZI gun, one EAGLE gun, three Makarov revolvers, one Magnum revolver, one Umareks revolver, one SIG Sauer revolver, one Fort-14 revolver and silencer, 1 Winchester gun, 57 cartridge clips, 60 electric detonators, 22 explosive remote controls, 12 F-1 handmade grenades, 11 RQD-5 handmade grenades, 5 foreign-produced handmade grenade, 25 grenade launchers, 12 capsules for detonator, 20 KENWOOD radio stations, 10 signal rockets, 1 clockwork meant for explosive, one compass and bullets of various length and other ammunition.
The investigation revealed that the armed group attempted to resort to robbery to obtain money in an effort to finance their crimes.
The National Security Ministry's Central Investigation Office has filed a case on Article 279.1 (organizing illegal armed groups) of Penal Code, Article 214.2.1 (an attempt of terrorism by a group of people), Article 214.2.3 (an attempt of terrorism by using fire arms), Article 228.2.1 (acquisition, transfer and storage of fire arms by an armed group), Article 229.1 (preparing fire arm, ammunition and explosives), Article 181.2., 181.2.5 (robbery), Article 206.3.2 (arms smuggling) and Article 234.1 (acquisition and sale of drugs).
