On Feb. 4 the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan registered the Civil society initiative group as an agitation group on referendum.
The signatures were collected from 63 constituencies. There were collected a total of 43,300 signatures, out of which 41,277 were valid and 2,023 - invalid, CEC secretary Natik Mammadov said.
CEC rejected to register the Freedom of word initiative group. The group collected 43, 100 signatures in 63 constituencies. 38,761 signatures were considered valid and 4,839 - invalid, Mammadov said.
A referendum will take place in Azerbaijan on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.
The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan, Shahar and Taraggi initiative groups. Abad Kand was not registered.
120 initiative groups were registered in precinct election commissions.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
