Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6 / Trend , A.Heseynbala /
The governing and opposition parties must hold joint discussions on amendments to the law on political parties in Azerbaijan.
"I talked to New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Executive Secretary Ali Ahmadov in this regard," Chairman of the United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party and member of parliament Gudrat Hasanguliyev said. "He said the idea is still in force."
Prior to the 2005 parliamentary elections, the governing party, pro-government party and opposition parties held several meetings under the mediation of the OSCE Baku Office.
Several opposition parties supported the NAP candidate during the Oct. 15 presidential elections.
NAP's dialogue with these parties is on the agenda once again after elections.
Members of parliament NAP Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov and Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend last week that the party is prepared for dialogue with the opposition.
"We want to agree the draft with the opposition before it will be presented to the parliament for consideration. Holding dialogue depends on the NAP," Hasanguliyev said.
There is a need to hold a dialogue with the NAP on other issues as well.
A group of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party separated from the organization under the leadership of Hasanguliyev in 2002. They held a unified meeting and called themselves the United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party in 2004. Hasanguliyev was a presidential candidate.
