Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/
An Azerbaijani opposition party will support the governing New Azerbaijan Party's (NAP) referendum initiative group.
"We have established our own referendum group. However, during the campaign, we will cooperate closely with the ruling NAP's group," Taraggi Party Chairman Chingiz Damiroglu told Trend on Feb. 6. Taraggi is represented in the Azerbaijani Progress Alliance.
Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.
The CEC registered the NAP's initiative group, as well as the Shahar, Taraggi Huquq Va Demokratiya and Vatandash Jamiyyati groups. The Abad Kand and Azad Soz groups failed to pass registration.
Precinct election commissions registered 124 initiative groups.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002
Damiroglu said each of the 21 parties united in the Azerbaijani Progress Alliance will carry out its own campaign.
"Besides supporting the governing party's group, every member of the political structures united in the Azerbaijani Progress Alliance will execute active propaganda in all regions," Damiroglu said.
The Taraggi Party has pursued radical opposition for over 10 years. After joining the opposition in summer 2008, Taraggi decided to support President Ilham Aliyev's candidacy during the October 2008 presidential elections.
