The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered 7 referendum initiative groups.
The CEC registered the For Sustainable Development and Intellect groups.
CEC Secretary Natiq Mammadov said the For Sustainable Development group gathered 46, 500 signatures from 102 constituencies at a recent CEC meeting. As many as 42,770 were valid.
Mammadov said Intellect collected 44,700 signatures from 11 constituencies. As many as 42,621 were valid and 2,079 invalid.
Azerbaijan will hold a referendum to amend the Constitution on March 18.
So far, the CEC has registered the New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy and Civil Society groups. The Prosperous Village and Free Speech groups were not registered.
The election constituencies have registered 124 initiative groups.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
