Azerbaijan must learn from U.S. and European experience to better fight corruption, Azerbaijani Parliamentary First Vice Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov said at a conference to improve transparency in legislative processes on Feb. 11.

"Azerbaijan is a young democratic country and needs to learn from their experiences," Asgarov said.

The U.S. is prepared to support Azerbaijan's aspiration to ensure rule of law and fight corruption, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ann Derse said at the conference.

"Work to improve transparency is too important for the country's democratic future," she said.

The U.S. hails Azerbaijan's aspiration to fight corruption and develop rule of law, Derse added.

"The U.S. plans to help Azerbaijan build a transparent government that will gain the trust of citizens," she said.

Council of Europe experts are reviewing Azerbaijani normative documents to combat corruption.

The Council of Europe is satisfied that Azerbaijan adopted a law on money laundering on Feb. 10, Council of Europe Cooperation Directorate Chief Margaret Killerby said at the conference.

"We hope the law will yield positive results," she said.
