OSCE winter session to focus on Russian, French initiative

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly's winter session will focus on a security initiative by Russian and French presidents Dimitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy, the OSCE said.

The session will be held in Vienna on Feb. 19-20 and comprise over 270 parliamentarians.

OSCE Chairman and Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis will open the session on Feb. 19.

The session will also focus on the Kazakh delegation's presentation on the country's arrangements to assume chairmanship in 2010. OSCE Vice President Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev heads the delegation.

Delegates will hear a report on piracy as new security threat at a final meeting.

Austrian National Council President Barbara Prammer, NATO President and U.S. Congressman John Tenner and OSCE President Joao Soares will make speeches at the session.
