Georgia's Defence Minister Vasil Sikharulidze and NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons discussed the issues to ensure security in conflict regions during the meeting in Tbilisi on Feb. 16.
The Russian side does not follow ceasefire agreement dated Aug. 12, 2008, Georgia's Minister said.
"Russia's numerous provocations caused victims amongst Georgia's policemen. The International community's efforts are necessary to avoid such facts," Sikharulidze said.
"It is necessary to take all measures to ensure security in conflict zones, Simmons said. "We spoke about Georgia's situation and retraining of its army on NATO standards," NATO Secretary General's Special Representative said.
Decision of NATO countries is unchangeable. Georgia will surely be a member of the Allience, he said.
Simmons has not specified terms of its joining but stressed that Tbilisi "makes progressive actions in this regard."
The issues to intensify cooperation and transfer to new formats were discussed during the meeting, Sikharulidze said.
