Azerbaijan, Barda, Feb. 27 / Trend корр, N.Abdullayeva/

Russia highly appreciates the level of humanitarian cooperation with Azerbaijan, Russian President Administration head Sergey Naryshkin said at the Baku Slavonic University on Feb. 27.

"Azerbaijan has provided all conditions to study the Russian language. It is gratifying to see that people in Azerbaijan show interest in the Russian language and culture. This is a far-sighted policy of the Azerbaijani Government," he said.

Naryshkin presented the Dmitriy Mendeleyev scholarships to the students of Azerbaijani universities. The scholarship was established by the Eurasian Studies Institute Development Fund to encourage students enrolled in public higher education institutions of Azerbaijan, who have gained special success in studies, researches and creative activities.

Mendeleyev Prize is an investment not only in the future of youth, but also in our common future, Naryshkin said. He expressed confidence that the students will become professionals. "Not only Azerbaijan but also Russia are interested in this," he said.

Scholarships were presented to four students of the Baku State University, three students of the Slavonic University, one student from the University of Languages, one student from the Baku Academy of Music and one student from the Technical University.

Naryshkin participated in the official opening ceremony of the Moscow State University Baku branch (MSU).

Sergey Naryshkin's visit has immensely contributed to development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration head-of-staff Ramiz Mehdiyev said at the ceremony.

Today Azerbaijan is dynamically developing. A successful investment policy, economic and political development enable Azerbaijani youth to receive high-quality education," he said.

The Russian language still occupies an important place both in Azerbaijan and country's education. According to statistics, more than 16,000 students receive education in the Russian language. A total of 65 percent of all students in higher education institutions and 74 percent in secondary educational institutions study Russian. More than 220 kindergartens train children in the Russian language. Some 215,000 students study Russian as a foreign language.

The Russian language is actively used in the information space of Azerbaijan, said Mehdiyev. Operation of the RIA Novosti and ITAR-TASS news agencies in Azerbaijan is a proof for cooperation in the field of information between Azerbaijan and Russia, he added.

The Year of Azerbaijan in Russia and the Year of Russia in Azerbaijan have been successfully carried out. The policy of good neighborhood that was established by the national leader Heydar Aliyev still continues to flourish, involving especially young people, Mehdiyev said.
