Palestinian premier Salam Fayyad has stepped down in order to pave the way for reconciliation between Islamic Hamas movement and president Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah, well-informed sources said on Saturday.
The sources, which are close to Fayyad, confirmed the reason was aimed at "reinforcing the efforts to succeed the reconciliation talks in Cairo due on March 10."
Fatah rules the West Bank whilst Hamas is in power in the Gaza Strip, reported dpa.
