Azerbaijani, Russian governments to ink agreement to protect and promote mutual investments: ambassador

The Azerbaijani and Russian governments plan to sign an agreement to promote mutual investments, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vasiliy Istratov told journalists on March 13.

"I hope the document will be signed at the next meeting of the intergovernmental economic cooperation commission," Istratov said.

The ambassador said the meeting will take place in Baku this summer.

According to the Russian Federal Trade Service, goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $2.402 billion in 2008. Exports hit $1.991 billion. Trade surplus was $1.579 billion.

Bilateral goods turnover amounted to $1.931 billion, including imports worth $348.9 million and exports worth $582.8 million, the Azerbaijani State Statistic Committee reported.
