CIS mission of observers hold meetings in Azerbaijan

The CIS mission of observers to monitor the referendum to make amendments to the Constitution study the situation on the threshold of elections in Azerbaijan.

The referendum initiative campaigns were launched on Feb. 18 in Azerbaijan. The campaigns will end on March 16.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.

Mission head Yevgeniy Sloboda has met with Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev, Internal Minister Ramil Usubov and Constitution Court Chairman Frahad Abdullayev.

The sides shared of thoughts to prepare to the referendum.

The mission head gave detailed information about the activities of the CIS mission in Azerbaijan. Representatives of Azerbaijani state agencies informed observers about that the preparations for a referendum conducted in accordance with the Electoral Code of the country.

Representatives of the mission visited some polling stations in Baku and Khachmaz, met with the initiatives of the referendum.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered the New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy, Republicans, Republic and Movement for Karabakh and Civil Society initiative groups. The Prosperous Village, Free Speech, Azerbaijan People's Republic and National Independence groups were not registered.
