U.S. Centre for Strategic Studies reviews cooperation with Turkmenistan

U.S. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) official Edward Chow reviews the prospects for cooperation with Turkmenistan, Turkmen official source said.

The issues related to the fuel and energy sector were mainly discussed at meetings in the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources, the State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources. Sale of hydrocarbon resources, particularly natural gas contributes huge funds to Turkmen treasury.

The U.S. is actively lobbying the project to construct the Nabucco transnational gas pipeline. This pipeline would allow diversification of resources export from the Caspian region and to expand the market for imports of European consumers. In addition, the large Western companies such as Shevron, ConocoPhilips, BP, Shell, Total, exploring opportunities for cooperation with Ashgabat in the field of hydrocarbon production.
