The German Government gave Georgian ex-Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili businessman Kibaru Khalvashi asylum. The businessman's lawyer Dmitriy Gabunia stated at a news conference on April 28.
"There was an unprecedented case. We received the document via fax from Germany on April 27. The relevant bodies of Germany presented a political asylum to Khalvashi. This is an unprecedented event in the world, when the businessman received a political asylum," he said.
As the lawyer said, the document of 22 pages describes why Germany considers Khalvashi as a political refugee.
"As he was Irakli Okruashvili's friend and is associated with former defense minister, he was persecuted and deprived from of business. In this regard, the Georgian courts' resolutions fall into question," Gabunia said.
It should be noted that Okruashvili himself received political asylum in France.
