Former high-ranking officials were preparing military coup in Georgia, particularly in a tank unit of Muhrovani, head of the Internal Ministry Analysis and Information Department Shota Utiashvili said at today's briefing. .

According to him, organizers of the coup had links with Russia and "were preparing to prevent NATO military exercises in Georgia.

Utiashvili called Gia Gvaladze, the former head of the Delta spetsnaz in 1990s (then Minister of State Security had been wanted by Interpol, and presently reside in Russia Igor Giorgadze) the organizer of the coup.

Utiashvili said that another organizer of the coup Otaradze is being wanted. A criminal case has been launched on the case. The fact is under the investigation.

Defence Minister David Sikharulidze said that one unit in the tank battalion has already announced disobedience. "We are talking with those military units. We have removed most commanders and ordered soldiers not to obey to them," Sikharulidze said.
