Georgia stood test of maturity: president

Georgia, Tbilisi, May 18 / Trend , N. Kirtskhalia/ The Georgian state and society did not yield to both foreign and internal provocation and preserved stability, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said.

"Despite many problems, poverty and occupation, our society handled all pressure, showed wisdom, determination and did not yield to provocation against the expectation of our enemies," he said.

Saakashvili said he is thankful to the society for the "maturity it displayed." "There is ongoing dialogue in the society and I am satisfied with it," he said.

Georgian president expressed his satisfaction at the cooperation with the parliamentary opposition. "I often hear criticisms from them which turn to be realistic in practice and we should pay more attention to this criticism," he said.

Saakashvili stressed that a group that has appeared among the radical opposition has also demonstrated a more realistic look at life. "There are different people. There are those who have nothing to lose, they call smash, to block highways, but this did not harm comfort of ministers, but people. Often they resort to lies, for example, say that I am building a presidential residence. Will I take away this building with me?"

The Georgian President admitted many in actions of the government is criticized, but it is "normal" and it should be listened. "Last time the situation was tense in anticipation of the action, they even managed to find two officers who tried to raise a rebellion. But everything is now normal and investments have already been made, situation with the tax collection has improved and it was decided to invest in the construction of 40 hospitals," he said.

Saakashvili emphasized that Georgia today is a state and will never return back.
