The Declaration on Eastern Partnership is an important paper that opens a new stage in relations between the European Union, Azerbaijan and other countries, the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby briefed the media in Baku on May 18.
"We believe that this paper will provide an opportunity to realize the vision of developing and open region where the borders will be opened. [...] Possibilities will open for the region as a transportation hub, a transport corridor," said Semneby.
In late 2008 the European Commission presented a new Eastern Partnership initiative within the European Neighborhood Policy, which aims at strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
