Georgia, Tbilisi, May 26 / Trend , N.Kirtzkhalia/
The Georgian Foreign Ministry is ready to begin consultations with the Russian side to open "Upper Lars" checkpoint in the Georgian-Russian border, Georgian Foreign Ministry's official Shota Gvineriya said.
On May 25, the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia, which represents the interests of the Russian Federation, handed over Moscow's proposal for the opening of the check point which was closed two years ago, without warning the Russian side unilaterally. Georgia has no communication with Russia through official checkpoints, as well as Moscow at that time announced a blockade of Georgia.
"Regarding the interests of the Georgian and Russian peoples, we are ready to negotiate on this issue," Gvineriya said.
Earlier, official Yerevan applied to Georgia with a request to open the movement through the "Upper Lars" checkpoint. Armenia hopes that cargo will be delivered to Armenia through this checkpoint via Georgia.
