U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Teft and several members of the embassy on May 29 visited the Marneuli (30 km of Tbilisi, populated mainly by ethnic Azerbaijanis), where they met with local non-governmental organizations and visited the Marneuli TV.
Due to financial problems, Marneuli TV ceased news programs in the Azerbaijani language a week ago. For the same reason, the frequency of these programs in the Georgian language was reduced, as well. Earlier, the TV aired local news every day, and now - four times a week.
Teft encouraged staff of the Marneuli television, saying that "everything will be fine." Knowing that "Marneuli TV" intends to develop telecasts for the Azerbaijanis who want to learn the Georgian language, Teft said that knowing the state language will contribute to greater integration of the Azerbaijani population with the Georgian society.
