Kyrgyz president offers to double number of independent observers in coming elections

Kyrgyz President offers to double number of independent observers in the coming elections. Kurmanbek Bakiyev made his offer during a meeting with the OSCE PA Chairman Joao Soares, 24.kg reported.

The president also noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

Press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic said the president emphasized that the republic is open and ready for a constructive dialogue with all OSCE bodies.

The Head of State expressed the hope that the observers from the OSCE will give an impartial assessment of the forthcoming presidential elections, which will facilitate strengthening of democratic transformation in the country.

Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, the president proposed to double the number of international observers in order to ensure maximum openness and transparency of the process.
Joao Soares said that the parliamentary delegation of Kyrgyzstan is actively participating in the Assembly. "Not to offend neighboring countries, I want to say that Kyrrgyzstan is probably the only country in the region which possesses multiparty system," he said.

Chairman of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly expressed its support to Bishkek initiative by Kurmanbek Bakiyev which aims to establish in Kyrgyzstan permanent international court for the conference and dialogue on security and stability in Central Asia, in particular the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan. The president also proposed to implement it under the auspices of the OSCE PA in the OSCE area.
