Jerusalem -Baku relations example for Israel's attitude to Muslim world: Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 19 / Trend , E.Ostapenko/

The relations between Jerusalem and Baku could be an example of Israel's attitude towards the Muslim world, Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Artur Lenk told Azerbaijani political scientists at the Azerbaijani President administration Strategic Studies Centre.

"Our relations with Azerbaijan could be an example of Israel's relations with the Muslim world," lenk said.

Azerbaijan's largest diaspora is in Israel representing 40,000 people. The Jewish community exists in Azerbaijan as well. "The relationship between Azerbaijan and Israel was commenced in 1994 after opening of the Israeli Embassy in Baku," Lenk said.

Over the last four years, Israel and Azerbaijan hit record on trade turnover and commerce.

As of Jnauary-April 2009, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Israel reached $293.6 million.

"We will remember June 2009, as Israeli president will visit Azerbaijan to promote bilateral relationship between the two countries," Lenk added.

Israeli President Shimon Peres will pay the first official to Azerbaijan on June 28.
