The issue to prolong a term of an active military service is not on the agenda, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

"Discussion of this issue is not on the agenda," Deputy Head of the ministry's press service Teymur Abdullayev told Trend on June 23.

Some media reported that the period of the active military service will be extended to 1.5-2 years. Under the current legislation, soldiers with higher education pass the active military service during a year, the officers - 1.5 years.

"Rumors that the Defense Ministry is developing any draft are groundless," Member of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Defense and Security Committee Zahid Oruj told Trend on June 23.

The Defense Ministry's leadership did not initiate to prolong a term of the service, he said.

"In any case, each paper in a legislative initiative must be signed by the president. As far as I know, the presidential administration also does not conduct any works in connection with this matter," said the deputy head.

Oruj said the committee and the relevant departments of the parliament are also not working on development of a draft to prolong a term of the active military service. "Therefore, I can say with full confidence that none of reports on extending a term of the active military service do not correspond to reality," the committee's member said.
