Azerbaijan, Baku, July 9 / Trend E. Ostapenko /

Netherlands Cabinet of Ministers decided to set up the embassy in Baku, press-secretary of the foreign ministry Aad Meijer told Trend over phone from the Hague.

Netherlands foreign minister Maxime Verhagen addressed with setting up of the embassy.

"Despite personnel cutbacks in the Ministry, I have been very much in favor of opening an embassy in Baku. Our bilateral relations with Azerbaijan are clearly intensifying, as well as Azerbaijan's cooperation with the EU," said Verhagen.

The embassy will operate for Dutch enterprises and deal with cooperation in power engineering.

Dutch ambassador will operate in close contact with other EU ambassadors to Baku, as well as embassies in Tbilisi and Ankara. Candidature for ambassador is being discussed.

Azerbaijani embassy to Netherlands was set up in 2007. Azerbaijan current ambassador to Netherlands is Fuad Iskenderov.

Turnover between Azerbaijan and Netherlands hit $17.8 million within January-April.
