Rostov Monomah horse wins horse race for Russian president's prize

Chestnut horse Monomah of Donskoi stud farm from Rostov region won horse race for the Russian President's prize. Leaders of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia attended the central Moscow race track on July 18, RIA Novosti said.

Monomah guided by jockey Vladimir Melihov shot ahead after start. There was intensive competition between fast horses Galyego, Sunshine Lemon and favorite Bronze Kennon till the last meters of 2.4 kilometer distance. Despite finish spurt of Sunshine Lemon, Monomah managed to achieve leadership.    

Total prize fund of races hit 7 million rubles, the winner got half. First, races for the president's prize were held at the central Moscow race track on June 3, 2004. The winner was four-year-old red horse Akbash of Krasnodar stud farm.  

Races were held in Kazan in 2005. Four-year-old chestnut horse Lamborn of Tatarstan's stud farm won.

Near Moscow chestnut horse Satellite and Azerbaijani black horse Eshkia reached finish at the same time at central Moscow race track in 2006.

Chestnut horse Terts (Tver) won races in Rostov in 2007. Three-year-old horse Palander (Volgograd) won at Pyatigorsk race track in 2008.
