Joseph Kobzon is in the Russian Oncologic Scientific Center named in the memory of N.N. Blohin, on Kashir highway, an informed medical source told RIA Novosti on July 20.

"Earlier, Kobzon was on out-patient treatment for a long time. He came to the Oncologic Scientific Center for a checkup once a week," he said.
The singer's personal assistant refused to comment on the state of Kobzon's health. Those close to Kobzon said that the information spread by the press concerning the state of Kobzon's health is untrue.
Kobzon has had health problems since 2001. He suffered back pain while performing in Kazakhstan. He went to see local doctors. On returning home, Kobzon had a high temperature. Doctors supposed it to be an advanced case of septic infection. Their diagnosis was confirmed. The possible causes included Kobzon's handheld catheter which slipped during his trip to Kazakhstan. It could have caused a blood infection. Kobzon was left with blood poisoning, recovering in Krasnogor Military Hospital for several days.
A tumor was discovered during an examination of Kobzon in 2004 and the singer underwent surgery. Latest results have showed that he is doing well.
Kobzon was 71 in September 2008.
