Iranian Supreme Leader announces amnesty

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made decision on amnesty on occasion of Mabas holiday (day when Allah chose Muhammad as prophet). Minister of Justice Hashemi Shahrudi submitted supreme leader amnesty project, Mehr information agency said.
Iranian Supreme Leader announces amnesty

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made decision on amnesty on occasion of Mabas holiday (day when Allah chose Muhammad as prophet). Minister of Justice Hashemi Shahrudi submitted supreme leader amnesty project, Mehr information agency said.   

Upon the document, amnesty will cover prisoners imprisoned for three years and served the fourth part of punishment, women having small children, teenagers under 18, men older 65, as well as women older 50 and those imprisoned for debts to the amount of $10,000.

Amnesty envisages reduction of punishment term for 2/3 for prisoners sentenced for more than three years and served 1/5 term of punishment.

Term of punishment for prisoners sentenced for life imprisonment and served 10 years will reduce 15 years. Roughly 1/5 part of debt will be liquidated for prisoners having debts to the amount of $10,000-$15,000. 

Amnesty does not include prisoners committed grave crimes, smugglers, armed robbers, violators, as well as those sentenced for damaging national security, arms and ammunition, drugs smuggling and life imprisonment for drugs smuggling served more than 20 years.
