The meeting of an Azerbaijan party to be held in autumn will discuss elections of a new chairman.

"We intend to hold a meeting in October and have already launched arrangements for it," Acting Chairman of the Azerbaijan Liberal Party (ALP), Avaz Tamirhan told Trend on July 30.

The opposition Liberal Party was established in 1996 under the leadership of Lala Shovkat. Currently, Shovkat is a co-founder and co-chair of an opposition political Azadlig bloc. Lala Shovkat had been the state secretary from July 1993 to spring 1994.

Tamirhan said not only his candidature will be nominated for the chairman position. "I believe besides me, there is at least one person who wants to run. But I do not to call his name," the member of the party said.

The acting chairman said people amongst Lala Shovkat's liberal leaders are not expected to run for this position. "After resignation, Lala Shovkat continues to control the party's activity, but does not interfere in elections of this or other position," Tamirhan said.
