Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.6 / Trend R.Hafizoglu /
Director of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, at the Johns Hopkins University in U.S., Svante Cornell, considers Turkish authority's meeting with pro-Kurdish leader is insufficient to solve the Kurdish problem of the country.
It is impossible to solve the Kurdish problem of the country through one meeting, Cornell told Trend in telephone conversation on Aug.6.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with leader of the Kurdish-supporting Democratic Society Party (DTP), Ahmet Turk. Erdogan considered the meeting as positive saying that the Kurds problem will be solved soon. Turk considered the meeting as start of dialogue between the parties. Leader of the Turkish main opposition, Republican People's Party (CHP), Deniz Baykal considered this meeting as authorities' discussions with supporters of terrorism in the country. Baykal demands the authorities to express its opinion towards Kurds openly.
The Democratic Society Party (DTP) should make changes to its policy to solve the current Kurd problem in the country, Cornell added. It is wrong to consider the meeting between Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and leader of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP), Ahmet Turk, as start of dialogue between the sides. Because, from political point of view they had such dialogue earlier, Cornell said.
