Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated trainer of Garabagh football club Gurban Gurbanov with the move into play-off round after defeating Honka of Finland at the match of European League third qualifying round second-leg matches, state news agency Azertag said.
"It is important that the club's footballers and coach are Azerbaijani citizens," Aliyev said. It is important that the team represents Agdam city and is named after Garabagh. The club gained victory over the strong football club at the previous round and that mirrors Azerbaijan's great potential in football, Aliyev said. Head of the state congratulated the club's stuff once again and wished new successes to Garabagh.
Head coach of the club, Gurban Gurbanov, thanked the President for congratulations. Gurbanov expressed his gratitude to the President for his attention and care towards Azerbaijani sport, as well as Garabagh football club on behalf of the club's staff saying that they will justify this care with brilliant matches.
Garabag defeated Honka with the score of 1-0 in the first-leg match in Finland and 2-1 in home match.
