The Parliament of Turkmenistan jointly with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Counterpart International and UN Development Program held a workshop on "Local self-government in international experience", the U.S. embassy in Turkmenistan announced.
The workshop focused on key issues of effective self-government and service, including financing and budget designing.
Over 25 people participated in the event, including the MPs, newly elected members of the self-government bodies, as well as representatives of the ministries of justice, finance, economic and development of Turkmenistan and the Central Tax Service.
The workshop enabled the newly elected representatives of self-government bodies to take the best example from the international experience to use further in their communities, as well as to improve service and budget designing process, the announcement said.
The forum was organized within the frames of the USAID and Counterpart Turkmenistan program on "Local Initiatives for Development". Expert on local self-government Merilin Devid, conducted the workshop.
Since 1993 USAİD allocated over $80 million to support economic development, social sector and public initiative in Turkmenistan.
