Georgia, Tbilisi, Aug.27 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

National wealth is being stolen from Georgia's occupied territory, in particular from Abkhazia, under the supervision of Russian troops, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the Ministry, raw materials are being removed from the country and deforestation, along with other activities, is being carried out to construct facilities for the Sochi Olympics. The actions, which are carried out while completely neglecting environmental protection, may lead the coastal region to disaster. Russia cannot hide the fact that environmental damage, caused by her actions, is on a wide and alarming scale, the ministry added.

The Russian Natural Resources and Ecology Ministry has developed a draft decree on the organization of a biosphere polygon of the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve to reduce environmental damage caused by Russia's actions. This involves creating an ecological corridor in the northern Caucasus, which will bring together the world-recognized biosphere reserves of the Teberda and the Caucasus, as well as the Federal Reserve Sochi, Daut and national parks in Abkhazia (the Ritsi and Kodori national parks).

After military aggression, the occupation of territory and ethnic cleansing against Georgia, Russia continues a policy on the appropriation of the occupied regions. In addition, Russia's plans are aimed at disguising environmental damage caused by Russia with inadequate projects, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

Georgia is appealing to the international community and the relevant international organizations to take the appropriate steps to prevent the appropriation of Georgia's occupied territories and avoid a potential environmental catastrophe.
