Estonia once again supports Georgia's territorial integrity

A Georgian delegation headed by the Georgian Foreign Minister, Grigol Vashadze, visited Estonia on Aug.24-26.

While on an official visit to Tallinn Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze held official meetings with Estonian President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Estonian Prime-Minister, Andrus Ansim, Foreign Minister, Urmas Paet, and Defense Minister, Jaak Aaviksoo, as well as with Estonian MPs, the ministry reported.

The meetings focused on the wide spectrum of the Georgian-Estonian bilateral relations and prospects for further cooperation. The sides noted the necessity of developing cooperation in different spheres and activating relations in a multilateral format. The meeting considered the possibilities of improving the legal base, particularly in economy and social security.

The Estonian side said that despite difficulties caused of the financial crisis, the projects being carried out with Estonian support will continue.

Estonia once again confirmed its steady support of Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and expressed its readiness to help the country in integrating into Euro-Atlantic organizations.

Georgian Foreign Minister thanked Estonia for its political and economic support during and since the conflict in South Ossetia in August, 2008. According Vashadze, Estonia's experience in integrating into the EU and NATO is very important for Georgia.

Vashadze gave a lecture on Georgia's internal and external priorities at the Estonian Research Institute on Foreign Policy.
The meeting also talked over the possibility of visits by senior representatives of the two countries in the near future.
