Prosperity and a good quality of life are directly dependent on the development of science and education, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told participants of an international scientific and educational forum, which opened in Ashgabat today.
Representatives from many world countries are participating in the forum. An exhibition and a scientific conference will be held within the forum.
After he took the office in 2007, Berdimuhamedov restored the Academy of Sciences and the correspondence-learning departments in universities, and brought secondary and higher education up to international standards. He has repeatedly promised Turkmen students their constitutional right to receive education abroad.
"One of our main goals now is to improve science and education as the main pillars of the state towards new heights of development", Turkmen President said. He said that teachers, scientists and specialists really assist the country in implementing this program. International cooperation also plays significant role.
Addressing Turkmen scientists, the President stressed that the Turkmen state has taken decisive action to bring local science to a new level of development. Berdimuhamedov has repeatedly called on scientists to research alternative energy sources - in particular, he addressed the staff of the newly-established Sun Institute.
"The necessary conditions for preparing science staff and a more complete use of the nation's intellectual potential are being created. A lot of work is being done to expand borders and to deepen the content of scientific research. Huge funds are invested in it.
The Turkmen law on "Education" and the resolution on the "Establishment of the Turkmen Academy of Sciences" were recently approved, in order to train highly qualified specialists and researchers, as well as to provide state support for research.
Training honest, well-educated, morally and physically healthy young people, aimed at becoming skillful professionals and bringing benefits to their country are among out state's priorities, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
"Our duty is to provide the country happy and comfortable lives."
The Turkmen authorities are working on widening Internet use. The former Ministry of Communication leadership was dismissed for its weak developments in this field. In his complementary address, the Turkmen President said that all educational facilities put into operation in Turkmenistan are equipped with modern computers and multimedia technology. All of them are connected to the Internet. "The successful implementation of our multilateral economic and social-political reforms and the radical improvement of people's welfare greatly depend on the depth and effectiveness of reforms in science and education.
"Our country is entering new spheres of development. Innovations used in various industries play an important role," Berdimuhamedov said.
In conclusion, the Turkmen leader expressed his confidence that the current international forum will become a venue to establish relations between scientists and experts, to exchange experiences and to determine areas to further develop international cooperation in science and education.
