Members of the Board of the Turkmen Muftiyyat have passed a resolution to appoint G.Khaytliev the country's mufti.

The state news service Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary did not divulge the name of the new Muslim leader. He also will be the main imam of the Mosque of Spirituality, located in the village of Kipchak of the Ruhabat District in the Akhal province (region).

Previously, Khaytlyev was the chairman of the Board for Religious Affairs in the Lebap province and the chief imam of the province.

The former mufti of the country, Rovshan Allaberdiev became the chairman of the Council for Religious Affairs in the Dashoguz province and the chief imam of the province. New Muslim clerics were appointed in other areas of the country, as well.

Turkmens profess Sunni Islam.
