The most important issue in EU relations with South Caucasus countries to discuss the adoption of the mandate of agreements on association with each of the countries in the region, said EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby.

"Signing such agreements will take a long time, but as a result, our relationship will become much stronger and more comprehensively developed," Semneby told reporters on Sept. 29 upon arrival in Baku.

He said that the association agreement will reflect trade issues, including creation of free trade zones, as well as freedom of movement, and in general will bring the EU's relations with South Caucasus countries to a new level.

"I hope that the agreement will be signed with each of the countries in the region," said the EU special representative, without specifying the exact date.

The EU proposal for the South Caucasus lies in the different items of the Eastern Partnership which notes the development of the EU's relations with each country in the region, as well as the strategic importance of the South Caucasus, he said.

During his one-day visit to Baku, Semneby will meet with Azerbaijani officials, independent experts and analysts.
