On Sept. 30, the political group of the European Democrats held a meeting as part of the PACE autumn session.
At the meeting, a political group has confirmed candidature of Movlud Chavushoglu, the head of the Turkish delegation to the PACE from the group of the European Democrats.
The group had two candidates: chairman of groups of David Wilshire and Movlud Chavushoglu. The Turkish member was elected a candidate for the post of the PACE chairman by majority of votes.
Powers of the PACE current Chairman, Luis Maria de Puig will expire in January 2010. The next elections for the chairman position will be held in January 2010. According to the procedure, a candidate from a group of the European Democrats should be elected for this post.
