It is an honor to become Georgia's new ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ivan Noniashvili told Trend over the telephone today.
"Historically, Georgian-Azerbaijani relations are warm and friendly," he said. "I am sure as Georgia's ambassador to Azerbaijan I will facilitate the continuation of this trend."
The Georgian parliament supported Noniashvili's candidacy with 84 votes.
After receiving parliament's approval, Noniashvili will replace Nikoloz Natbiladze, who has already been appointed Georgia's ambassador to Spain.
Since 2006, Noniashvili has headed the Georgian Presidential Administration's Press Service. He speaks Russian, English and Turkish. He holds the rank of civilian adviser.
"I have many friends in Azerbaijan and I have been there often," he said.
According to the official, major priorities during his tenure will be to improve Georgian-Azerbaijani relations and resolve a row of bilateral issues.
