Combating illegal fishing, arms and drugs smuggling and environmental hazards were discussed during a meeting of border service heads of Caspian countries in Baku this week.

"We forecast probable crimes and prepared programs to combat them at the meeting. An agreement was reached to establish an automated information center," one official told Trend on the condition of anonymity.

An agreement was signed during the meeting between Caspian countries to hold such an event annually, Iranian Border Police Commander, Maj. Gen. Hussein Zulfugar told Trend .

The meeting was held in Baku Nov. 25.

Zulfugari said the automated information center will monitor border-related events and allow data about criminals to be exchanged between countries.

"A group consisting of five people was established in this regard. The group is charged with establishing an information center and implementing operations to strengthen control over the Caspian Sea," the official said.
