Greece, Athens, Dec. 2 / Trend E.Huseynov /
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is ready to work with Azerbaijan to implement recommendations to improve the country' electoral process.
"I sent a letter to Baku recently which again confirmed our readiness to work with Azerbaijan to implement recommendations to improve the electoral process, as well as for the elections to be held very soon - next year," ODHIR head, Ambassador Jamez Lenarcic said at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Athens today. "Now is the time to improve this sphere."
He expressed hope that the next elections in Azerbaijan will be better than those held in previous years.
"I am sure that the Azerbaijani authorities also want this and I am confident that we will celebrate progress from election to election," Lenarcic said.
In 2010, Azerbaijan will hold parliamentary elections.
According to Lenarcic, Azerbaijan is a country still developing democratic institutions.
"The state is on the path to strengthening democratic institutions and we work closely with the Azerbaijani authorities and are trying to promote this process in the right direction," he added.
