Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze met with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers. The sides discussed the relations between the two countries and their development prospects.

The meeting in the Georgian Parliament was held behind closed doors. International relations and Georgia's integration into European and Euro-Atlantic organizations were topics of the discussions.

The President of Latvia said that his country as a member of the EU will provide assistance to Georgia in the process of rapprochement with the EU and NATO.

Zatlers expressed his willingness to provide assistance in achievement of visa free program with EU countries and free trade. It was noted that Latvia is one of the few countries which has simplified visa program with Georgia and more opportunities to deepen and expand economic cooperation.

The sides also debated internal political processes in Georgia and the parliament's active role in relations with the opposition.

Bakradze informed Zatlers about the ongoing reforms in the country. Zatlers said Latvia is ready to assist in the expansion of the EU monitoring mission in Georgia.

Bakradze thanked Zatlers for their active assistance and support to Georgia.
