Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 22 / Trend M.Aliyev /

Preparations for the municipal elections in Azerbaijan have been held in accordance with the law, Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chairman Mazahir Panakhov said. The population did not experience any dissatisfaction, he added.

"Municipal elections have their own specificity in contrast to the presidential and parliamentary elections. There are over 1,700 different ballots and counting votes, so information from district electoral commissions cannot be provided promptly as in the presidential and parliamentary elections," he said at a press conference following preparations for the elections.

According to the official, society will monitor the municipal elections through CEC the Web site, which will promote the transparency of the electoral process.

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for December 23, 2009. About 15,682 members are planned to be elected to 1,718 municipalities.

Azerbaijan has registered about 32,000 candidates for municipal members. Candidates from 18 political parties have been registered for elections.

Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

"The CEC has not managed to answer only 2.8 percent or 963 of all the received complaints," he added.

According to the CEC head, if the name of a voter was not included in the voting list, it will be by on Election Day.
