Azerbaijan is important for NATO, as the country plays a significant role in the fight against terrorism, promoting international energy security and has an advantageous geopolitical position, Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nicolae Ureche said.
Azerbaijan should undergo three types of reforms he said: military, political and economic reform.
This is a complex process which requires not only government but also civil society, he said.
"We need to know the views of civil society. In the case of Azerbaijan it requires hard work in many areas and that will take time," he added.
"We want to cooperate with the alliance, but the problem is that not the entire population knows about the activities of the organization," said Farrukh Mammadov, head of the Azerbaijani Institute for Cooperation with NATO.
According to him, it is necessary to hold many educational activities in Azerbaijan.
"Since February 2009, within a short period we have moved closer to NATO and our plans for 2010 - activities for the convergence and integration in NATO," he added.
