The presidents of CIS countries adopted an appeal to the international community in connection with the sixty-fifth anniversary of the end of World War II.
"The peoples of the CIS celebrate the anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War May 9. The multinational people of the Soviet Union defended the freedom and independence of their Motherland, and saved many countries from Fascist enslavement in an unprecedented and brutal war, " a statement posted on the CIS Executive Committee website read.
"At the front and rear, our people demonstrated their dedication and heroism, and patriotism and internationalism, and unprecedented stability, without which victory would have been impossible. There was no similar resistance in history," the statement said.
The statement thanked veterans across the world, and urged the international community to pay homage to these individuals.
"May 9 remains a day of justice, pride, and mourning for millions who died in this immensely cruel and terrible battle. We revere the memory of those who died, " the statement said.
The statement urged the international community to care for memorials, monuments, obelisks, the graves of partisans and underground fighters, and concentration camps.
The presidents also appealed to the international community to educate younger generations about the common world history and victory over Fascism.
