Uzbek state and public organizations, international humanitarian institutions and the general public are providing assistance and temporary accommodation to Kyrgyz refugees.
The Mehr Nuri Charity Foundation, Uzbek Culture and Arts Forum Fund, Social Initiatives Support Fund and Women's Assembly Republican Public Association have organized two shipments of humanitarian aid to victims of the recent ethnic clashes in Kyrgyzstan. Companies and enterprises such as GeoMax and Tethys Petroleum have taken part in the initiative.
The latest batch of humanitarian aid was sent to the Ferghana Valley where the Kyrgyz refugees temporarily reside. The over 130 tons of humanitarian cargo is worth $200 million soum and includes food and medicine, sugar, rice, flour, potatoes, pasta, cereals, tea, drinking water, oil, disposable syringes, systems for blood, bandages, iodine, painkillers, and children's clothing.
Volunteers from the Kelajak Ovozi Youth Initiatives Center are taking part in the collection and distribution of the food and medicine. The Sen Elgihz Emassan (You Are Not Alone) Republican Public Children's Fund sent a consignment of humanitarian aid weighing 120 tons aid to the refugees Tuesday. The aid included food, water, medicines and blankets.
Over 100,000 Kyrgyz refugees have fled to Uzbekistan since the start of the civil unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan.
