Monument to Stalin dismantled in Georgia

The monument to Joseph Stalin located in the central square in Gori (Eastern Georgia) was dismantled. Demolition has been made at night under the police guard, who cordoned off the central square of Stalin's native city.

The monument to Joseph Stalin located in the central square in Gori (Eastern Georgia) was dismantled. Demolition has been made at night under the police guard, who cordoned off the central square of Stalin's native city.

Demolition took place without incident.

The city authorities have decided to establish a monument in front of the house-museum of Stalin in Gori.

The monument installed in Gori in 1952 stood on the 19-meter pedestal.

A monument to the victims of the Georgian-Russian war will be established now in the central square in Gori.

Gori was bombed by the Russian military aircraft in August 2008. As a result dozens of residents and  Dutch journalist Jan Storimans were killed .
